It was interesting in that I attended SCW Fitness Mania in Orlando this past weekend. I spent 5 days there in personal training classes as well as classes that ranged from "Medicine Ball Madness" to lectures on "Hormonal Therapy - Fitness for women over 50" and much, much more.
The day I returned I received a call from the BBC back in England. They were looking to book one of our personal trainers for a nutritional/fitness show and low and behold what I just learned came into play rather quickly.
Everyone's body is different. Metabolisms are different - how we all react to different foods and different combination of foods varies from person to person. You can't say, in all honesty, I can eat this and I will only have to run 8 miles to burn off the calories. Nutrition and your body mechanics are not so black and white.
We are led to believe this in that the labelling on food shows us just what is in each morsel we eat. But how our body breaks it down and how and when we exercise and the type of exercise we do all affects how fast we do (or how long it takes us) to burn those calories.
The BBC wanted exact science for calorie burning within an individual's body and there is no special magic formula. It's not an exact science. The best we can do is approximate, which is what the chart above says as well. Approximation. They didn't believe me, so I told them to go find another team of trainers who might not know as I do - what is right and what is myth and what is reality!
